Over-the-Counter COVID Tests
Group health plans and health insurance issuers now cover the cost of FDA-authorized over-the-counter (“OTC”) COVID-19 tests, commonly known as at-home or self-test kits.
Here’s how Bath Iron Works’ health plans are addressing this:
- Group health plans will cover up to eight OTC COVID-19 tests per covered individual per 30-day period at no cost to the member. For example, a covered family of three could get up to 24 OTC COVID-19 tests covered by their health plan per 30-day period. (Each test is counted separately, even if multiple tests are sold in one package.)
- To be covered under this program, test kits must be FDA-approved, those typically identified as Emergency Use Authorization (EUA).
- Kits purchased prior to January 15th 2022 will not be reimbursed.
- There is no requirement for the OTC test to be ordered by a medical provider.
Salaried Employees who are Prime Therapeutic pharmacy members:
- Members can pick up an FDA-approved test kit at their pharmacy, take the kit to the pharmacy counter and pay for it there, asking for it to be put through insurance.
- There will be no cost to you at the point of sale.
- If you buy a kit online or at an out-of-network (not participating) or an in-network pharmacy, keep your receipt so you can be reimbursed. You can be reimbursed for up to $12 per kit. You will need to complete a claims form (see below) and provide your receipt.
