General Dynamics Bath Iron Works Starts Fabrication of Louis H. Wilson Jr. (DDG 126)

BATH, Maine – On Tuesday, March 3, General Dynamics Bath Iron Works celebrated the start of fabrication of the shipyard’s first Flight III destroyer, Louis H. Wilson Jr. (DDG 126). Louis H. Wilson Jr. (DDG 126) is named for a U.S. Marine Corps captain who earned the Medal of Honor for “indomitable leadership, daring combat tactics, and valor in the face of overwhelming odds,” at the Battle of Guam in 1944. Planner Dave Harper, a 47-year BIW employee, initiated the first cut of steel plate.

Ed Kenyon, Director of New Construction Programs, told shipbuilders and Navy personnel gathered for the ceremony that the Navy is eager for the new Flight III capability in Arleigh Burke-class destroyers and that major investments in the shipyard’s Structural Fabrication Facility will help BIW deliver that capability.

General Dynamics Bath Iron Works is an equal opportunity employer.
