Passing of Sen. Carl M. Levin Namesake of DDG 120

We are saddened to announce the passing of Senator Carl Levin, the namesake of DDG 120, and send our deepest condolences to the Levin family.

The men and women of General Dynamics Bath Iron Works remain incredibly honored to be building the ship that bears Senator Levin’s name, which will carry the spirit of a steadfast defender of our nation’s security.

We are extremely grateful to have had the pleasure of his company at the keel-laying ceremony here at the shipyard on Feb. 1, 2019, when so many people had the chance to share their admiration for him and his work. We were privileged to have him return on July 1 of that year to meet many of the shipbuilders and tour the ship under construction.

Despite the sorrow we now hold in our hearts, we look forward to a day when we will be able to pay proper tribute to the remarkable man for whom the future USS Carl M. Levin (DDG 120) is named, and know that he will be with us in spirit.
