What We Do

Located in the northeastern United States in Bath, Maine, General Dynamics Bath Iron Works has delivered over 425 ships to the world’s fleets since 1884, including more surface combatants than any other U.S. shipyard. Since World War II, BIW has built the lead ship for 12 new, non-nuclear U.S. Navy surface combatants.

General Dynamics Bath Iron Works is a full service shipyard specializing in the design, construction and support of complex surface ships, from destroyers to cruisers, providing the U.S. Navy’s most advanced, high quality surface combatants for more than a century.

Leaders in ship production process innovation, we have a long history of incorporating cutting edge technology into our ships. Supported by state-of-the-art facility modernizations, our experienced work force of skilled mechanics produce highly outfitted, complex surface ships and relentlessly drive cost out of the shipbuilding process. The result is a highly capable product that carries the renowned quality of a “Bath-Built” ship.
